In Children and Adolescents

The core symptoms of a Major Depressive Episode are the same for children and adolescents, although data shows some age-related differences. Children are more likely to complain of perceived symptoms of illness, irritability, and social withdrawal. Psychomotor retardation, hypersomnia, and delusions are less common in prepuberty than in adolescence and adulthood.
